About
The Fairy Dust Story
Fairy Dust Studio is a music studio owned and operated by award-winning songwriter/producer, Jessica Lindsay (Jess, they/them) out of their home in the Portland metro area. We offer sparkly vocal production, mix engineering and joyful songwriting services plus modern music education that defies the norm. We aim to empower independent artists, producers and songwriters to manifest their dreams in a supportive community. Our newest offering, Fairy Circles, are quarterly collaborative retreats corresponding to the growing seasons: sowing (generating creative ideas), nurturing (song development), harvesting (production and release), and composting (introspection and synthesis).
They offer a beautifully restorative PNW setting, like-minded creators, an educational exploration of creative and industry ideas, and cocreation sessions that enchant and inspire. Our ideal customers are likely queer, liberation-focused, witchy-curious, ambitious independent artists, producers and songwriters up and down the West Coast and flying in from Nashville and even NY or globally. Independent musicians often find themselves isolated and overworked trying to manage all aspects of their careers alone, and Fairy Circles aim to bring people together to access flow and magic together, supporting each others’ art and humanity. Music labels and publishing houses create these experiences for their writers, producers and artists, but it is rare to find opportunities to gather and make stuff independently especially in the pop-adjacent world. Fairy Dust Studio aims to be that safe space and community hub.
Jess, owner and operator, has been in the industry for over twenty years, teaching and making music with others: first as a piano teacher, then as a custom songwriter and now as a producer and collaborative songwriter with cuts on a top-selling pop country album in Australia. They are almost finished with their Masters in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music and looking forward to the launch of these Fairy Circles to continue fostering collaborative art, music industry relationship and a restored holistic health with self, community and the earth.
Fairy Circle Origins
Jess’ first experience with a songwriting retreat changed their life: they made lifelong friends, established rich connections with collaborators, learned critical insights into the music industry and songwriting craft, and were inspired and rejuvenated by the beauty of the setting in California’s gorgeous redwoods. Run by Warner Chappell ex-exec, Judy Stakee, whose very being seemed to generate creativity and collaboration among participants, all participants were touched by the magic she infused into every moment.
A few years later, Jess tried their hand at curating a similar event for their two best writer/producer friends and frequent musical collaborators. They were invited up to Jess’ mother’s home in the western Washington countryside and the three creators nourished each other, wrote meaningful bangers, and developed lasting bonds. Since then, Jess has invited a number of artists from Nashville and Los Angeles and the Portland metropolitan area to Fairy Dust Studio to write and track vocals in their home lovingly dubbed Rio Vista for its stunning view of the Columbia River gorge and Mt. Hood.
They gather around the baby grand piano in the living room next to the fireplace to write freshies, draw tarot cards and spiritually ground before tracking sessions in the studio, take walks around nearby local forest and lake trails, pop into nearby Portland for world-renowned food and bevvies, and often continue working together remotely after the weekend is over. It is emotionally connective, mentally stimulating, creatively inspirational, spiritually fulfilling and physically restorative. Jess wants to facilitate this same experience in a group setting because they personally HAVE and have heard the need from others to get out of the isolated bedroom studio and into connective, collaborative spaces where indie makers can support each others’ spirits and art.
